A Mac should run smoothly out of the box and after setup, migration of data from an old Mac to your latest one can affect the operation of it as it may of brought some configurations and setting across which can interfere with its operation. This can be fixed by cleaning out old settings, etc..
But if you have had your Mac for a while and it has been working great and you start to notice issues for example, unexpected shutdowns, battery degrading, weird noises, noisy fans, screen problems, slowing down , etc.. It might be best to look into what is happening.
Need help with repairing your Mac? We can help.
Leaving these issues unattended can lead to greater issues and may cost more in the long run.
Most common signs your Mac needs repairing
Â
- Unexpected shutdowns or power flickering: can indicate power issues which may need an assessment to determine the cause.
- High spinning fans: may indicate overheating in the device or a failure of some sort.
- Screen issues: like dead pixels, flickering, lines or physical damage may require repair to prevent further failure which may lead to complete failure of the display
- Grinding and clicking: or other weird noises may indiciate hard drive failures or other hardware failures which can cause data loss.
- Flashing folder icon: this generally indicates that the startup disk is missing and usually means an issue with detecting the hard drive.

Power Issues
Consistent power issues can indicate more major issues with the power supply or logic board components. When the Mac fails to charge or detect a power source it usually is something a bit more problematic.
Failing to charge can indicate issues with the battery, the power management system on the logic board (faulty capacitors or management chips), charging port or the charging cable itself.
This will need to be diagnosed.Â

High Spinning Fans / Overheating
Overheating issues can turn into major problems if left unchecked, it can cause damage to your Mac device.
High spinning fans usually indicates the need to control the thermals, high CPU usage, a sensor is not responding correctly, blocked vents, dust build up and possibly faulty adapters or malware.
Changing certain parts can also trigger high fan spin.

Screen Issues
Issues like flickering, dead pixels, cracks, physical damage and lines can still be usable but overtime can be more problematic. Overtime it could result in the display not working at all.
Screen turning on and off when the screen is on a certain angle could indicate the flexgate cable issues on certain models which means the display ribbon cable splits over a certain time causing the screen to turn on and off at certain angles of the screen.

Weird Noises
Weird noises coming from your Mac could indicate certain types of issues for example:
Grinding or clicking: could indicate there is a hard drive failure and may need specialised data recovery if at later stages of failure.
Whirring sound (Possibly rattling): could indicate a malfunctioning fan and can lead to overheating and internal damage.
Beeping: could be either a software or hardware issue that requires diagnosisÂ

Flashing Folder Icon
A flashing folder icon on a Mac indicates that your startup disk is missing or there is no bootable macOS.
Sometimes its a minor issue that will need repairing of the partition, boot, resetting NVRAM, etc to get it fixed and boot up again or other times it can be more severe and could indicate a hard drive failure which may need a data recovery specialist to recover.
